tomorrow's election

I'd really like to think that Australians will get rid of these right wing arseholes, but sadly I'm not that hopeful. I think Australia is even more like the US here than we'd like to admit and this feels eerily like GWB vs John Kerry in 2004 - red necked right wing idiots who only care about money and thus make everyone feel like there's money in the bank, revealing Average Joe's real interest in money above all else, while abominations like Baxter detention centre are incarcerating innocent people and the government are even spending 700 million on building another, worse one on Christmas island.

The crazy thing is everyone seems to be going around thinking "yeah they've done an alright job" and completely forgetting that the standard of living here used to be a huge amount better pre-howard and young people could actually afford to buy a house and a loaf of bread.

now we are just like any other first world country in the world and the one advantage Australia always had has been eroded and now we're just a nation of greedy fat bastards with short memories.

I hope tomorrow proves me wrong, but I somehow doubt it.
