Book of Copyright
1.1 And the Capitalist did speak unto the Empress and he did say.
1.2 'Lo, it is so that all that is good flows from me. Without me no work would be done, no music would be sung, no pages would be writ. There would be no scientists, nor engineers, nor doctors.
1.3 And the Empress, in her ignorance, did bow down to the Capitalist.
1.4 And she spake 'Good sir, how can I serve thee.'
1.5 So the Capitalist smiled and said unto her 'All the people of this land shall be my slaves. The men and women shall be beholden to me and the children shall be taught my wisdom'
1.6 The Empress, full of her own arrogance, agreed.
1.7 But then the prophet of the Lord did appear. And mighty was his wrath.
1.8 And he did cast the Capitalist out of the palace. To the Empress he decreed.
1.9 'Oh foolish woman. Our Lord did not create music to be the property of men. And he did not create words so that the Capitalist could pile high his gold.'
1.10 'And science exists so that man may better understand our Lord's creation.'
1.11 'These things he created for all humanity.'
1.12 And fearing the anger of the prophet, the Empress did grovel before the Lord.
1.13 'Please forgive me. I was arrogant and believed that these things were in my power to give away. Now I see this is not so.'
1.14 And the prophet did nod. 'These things can no more be owned than the air we breathe. Now you must earn forgivness.'
1.15 But the Empress did weep. 'Oh Lord. I do not know what to do. I am weak and foolish - so it is that the Capitalist fooled me.'
1.16 And the prohpet was filled with pity, for he knew that all leaders of the day were week and foolish.
1.17 'Empress.' He did say unto her 'Take the music and the books from your palace library and give them freely unto the people.'
1.18 'But how shall we make new music without the Capitalist?' She did ask.
1.19 And the prophet did laugh.
1.20 'And such is your foolishness! Musicians are as trees - they need protection only from woodcutters, and do not need cultivation. They must weather the storms to grow strong and study. A tree inside a barn will grow bent and withered.'
1.21 Upon hearing these words the Empress ceased her weaping.
1.21 'Greatly am I indebted to you, for you have saved my people a great injustice.'
1.22 And she did command her servants to amass the great works of civilization and she saw to it that each citizen was given free access to these.
1.23 'In this way.' The Empress declared to all 'we shall all become wiser and happier'.
1.24 So it came to pass that her land was revered throughout the world, and many traveled from afar to read the books and hear the music of her great land.

"Strong cup of tea and an iced vo vo"
somehow I think "strong cup of tea and an Iced VO VO" is strangely fitting for Kevin Rudd. It was actually part of his victory speech. And he looked like a Tea and Iced vo vo consumer, though only occasionally indulging in the guilty pleasure.
He's not radical, that's for sure. But hopefully that means he will be a good balanced influence for the better.
Much to my own surprise I felt quite sad watching Howard's concession speech. He was very dignified and graceful, and it was an emotional moment to watch the end of an era, whether or not it was an era I liked. It was a very symbolic transition from old world, retiring conservative, to new, young, future minded, mandarin speaking, slightly awkward, almost unlikely, uncharismatic or uncomfortable choice, but somehow more suited to the 21st century. I guess Rudd will satisfy that part in us that thinks there were a lot of areas where Howard actually did a good job. It's hard to deny that the economy is in a good state, so hopefully Rudd will keep the good bits, but scrap all the bits where they were just a bunch of bastards.
I also noticed that Labor seems to have removed all affiliation with the Union Jack - Just the southern cross behind them....makes me wonder if another republic referendum is on the cards....
I hope so - it seems bizarre for it to still be there and the queen to still be on the money.
Whatever happens, I'm sure Kev o'Sev will become less awkward as Government shapes him (it always does - Howard was very goofy at the start), and it feels exciting to witness such a big change.
The father of the new plutocracy is sharing the intimate secrets of his new plan for galactic domination with the governor of one of his lower dominions in the pacific and demonstrating his new finger gesture operated depleted uranium daisy cutter laser detonator. The aging minion on the left looks on in awe as the supreme overlord effortlessly pulverizes a small outpost in the desert, somewhere near Pine Gap.
“Blammo!” exclaims the crazed megalomaniac ruler, drunk on his own power and careless in his boisterous, egotistical boasting; showing off like a child with a new super soaker.
“I think the caretaker was still in that building!” interjects the pacific minister, tired and uncertain of his ability to keep up with the virile young buck, who is unrestrained in his ecstatic enjoyment of this new phase of the war games.
“That’s okay, we’ll get ya another.” Replies the fuehrer as he calls to one of his man servants to rustle up another staff member for his little friend.
“What else have you got for us to blow up? Where’s that big pointy building that looks like a bunch of sea shells? That’d be fun to smash up!”
Little Johnny stammers: “erm…you mean the opera house?” quietly thanking God in his mind that they are a couple of thousand kilometers away, giving ‘Il Duce’ time to get distracted and forget about his impulsive plan to destroy one of the colony’s most important monuments.

WTF???
well, just in case we felt like Rudd was the better man: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/11/23/2099795.htm?site=elections/federal/2007 (you can also click the title)
I'm really not sure he's much better, but in my desperation to get rid of the Howard regime I'm still going to vote fro him
but I'm gonna vote for Larissa in the senate

I'd really like to think that Australians will get rid of these right wing arseholes, but sadly I'm not that hopeful. I think Australia is even more like the US here than we'd like to admit and this feels eerily like GWB vs John Kerry in 2004 - red necked right wing idiots who only care about money and thus make everyone feel like there's money in the bank, revealing Average Joe's real interest in money above all else, while abominations like Baxter detention centre are incarcerating innocent people and the government are even spending 700 million on building another, worse one on Christmas island.
The crazy thing is everyone seems to be going around thinking "yeah they've done an alright job" and completely forgetting that the standard of living here used to be a huge amount better pre-howard and young people could actually afford to buy a house and a loaf of bread.
now we are just like any other first world country in the world and the one advantage Australia always had has been eroded and now we're just a nation of greedy fat bastards with short memories.
I hope tomorrow proves me wrong, but I somehow doubt it.

Although in all likelihood the poor woman would have been quite badly hurt from this, there is nothing so funny as good old fashioned slapstick.
